In its 150 years of fine furniture making, Walter Knoll has not only produced quality products but has also created countless designs that have defined the styles of homes, offices, as well as public and retail spaces.
Founded in 1865 by Wilhelm Knoll, Walter Knoll began as a leather furnishing company and was a supplier to the royal court. Knoll’s sons — Willy and Walter — took over the family business in 1907 and started producing chairs that furnished aircrafts and airships in the 1920s. After World War II, the innovative company continued to break design boundaries by unveiling modern models that drive buyers into the next decade of contemporary living.
Fast forward to 1993, the Benz family bought over the Walter Knoll company and since then, CEO Markus Benz has been in charge of the brand’s expansion into various cities including London, Paris, Mumbai and Beijing.
Marking its long history in crafting chairs that hold a timeless appeal, the Walter Knoll unveils its Classic Edition collection. As the name suggests, the range includes eight perennial favourites, including the 1949 Vostra chair. Commenting on the Classic Edition range, Benz says, “[It is] an invitation to become acquainted with new-born classics and rediscover familiar favourites — all with their very own story.”
